Artist Paints Layered Portraits with Superimposed Photographs

Annapolis-based artist Jeff Huntington make connections between apparently opposing patterns and emotion. Huntington has made frequently layered depictions of the human condition. For instance, a recent painting in his hometown blends the peaceful expression of a golden Buddha with a damaged nurse in pain from a 1925 Sergei Eisenstein Film. His latest series, “Catalyst,” features superimposed images of people with a meaningful effect on human history, culture, and values. Each subject is an inspiration of some kind, but when merged with value, shape, and varying interpretations, Huntington adds an entirely new dimension to their images.
