Artist Ran Hwang Uses Buttons to Create Large-Scale Installations

New York-based artist Ran Hwang applies buttons from the fashion industry to create huge, frequently immersive installations. The artist explains her process of nailing myriads of pins into a wall similar to a monk meditating. Both practices rely on routine and result in something magical.

Also, the artist uses string to join thousands of pins to a two-dimensional surface. The negative space built by the artist results in such images as a crystal chandelier covered in cobwebs.
