Incredible Rooftop Shots of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Published 171 days ago in Travel

Brooklyn-based photographer Navid Baraty is used to shooting New York City intersections from high above, it just so happens that this past Thursday he didn’t take shots of taxi cabs whizzing by but instead caught a bird’s eye view of one of the most iconic parades in the United States. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a tradition that started back in 1924 and is known for its gigantic balloons which primarily consist of pop-culture characters like Spider-Man and SpongeBob SquarePants. Deep in the Jungle with the Mentawai tribe, Siberut, Indonesia – Joey Lawrence

Published 189 days ago in Nature, Travel

Joey says: I traveled to Siberut, Indonesia last August and slept on the front porch of some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met- The Mentawai. During the trip I became good friends with the Shaman’s that guided me through the rainforest- Bajak Lala, Toikot, Tai Jia Jia and Tarason. These medicine men acted as a bridge into their culture, introducing me to their families, friends and complex spiritual beliefs. I had to repay them some how… Read the rest of this entry →

Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention 2012

Published 189 days ago in Travel

Just kidding. You will notice, however, that these particular ladies and gentlemen are covered with noticeably brighter ink. You will be torn between admiring these dense intricate body collages as a whole and getting snagged on a particular detail — Salvador Dalí peeking out madly from one gent’s waistline, Charles Manson wrapping around the rib of another, a hand portrait of a dog next to the actual dog, both gleaming with two sets of puppy eyes, aw. Steve McCurry’s Epic Train Photography

Published 195 days ago in Travel

Best known for his fascinating image of an Afghani woman with striking green eyes, Steve McCurry’s photography has been described as “the most evocative colour photography”. During the eighties he spent time in India photographing train stations, creating a visual narrative of day to day activities and capturing his unique perspective in this fascinating personal account. We’re delighted that Steve McCurry has granted us permission to share this breathtaking photography. Steve says, “when the train pulls into the station there is a mad dash of humanity. People push through the doors and climb through windows to capture an elusive seat to avoid the punishment of standing for an entire trip.” The effect is a collection of photographs which, though sometimes sad, are always thought provoking. The City that Builts into the Rock

Setenil de las Bodegas is a small town in the province of Cádiz, Spain. Named after its once flourishing wineries – bodegas – Setenil de las Bodegas (which means Setenil of the Wine Cellars) is unique among the pueblos blancos, white villages, of Andalucia and particularly famous for its dwellings built into the rock overhangs. The town extends along the course of the Rio Trejo with some houses being built into the rock walls of the gorge itself, created by enlarging natural caves or overhangs and adding an external wall.
