The National Building Museum Transformed Into A Giant Beach-Themed Play Area

On the Fourth of July the museum’s latest installation effort, The Beach, simulated the real thing. The 10,000-square-foot exhibit in the museum’s Great Hall features beach chairs, umbrellas, a delicate turf that feels a bit like sand underneath your shoes and, oh right, a massive “sea” in the form of 1 million small plastic balls. “The idea of creating something that is unexpected, but also something that’s memorable” moved Snarkitecture, says Alex Mustonen, who founded the edgy practice with Daniel Arsham.
