During his relatively short life, Luigi Ghirri (1943 – 1992) revolutionized Italian photography, gaining a far-reaching reputation as a pioneer and master contemporary photographer. Beginning his career in the 1970s – in the company of Conceptual artists, who were an important early influence – Ghirri presented his homeland through a sequence of poetic and ambiguous photographs.
