Project managers are involved in the project planning process which includes defining objectives & scope of work for a project, defining project deliverables & timelines, developing a schedule of work breakdown structure (WBS), or schedule milestones so they can track what gets worked on when by each team member, monitoring performance against the plan ensuring that activities are being carried out on time and within budget constraints
A project manager must also define success criteria for projects at the beginning of the project lifecycle.
