The Rhône is one of Those Leading rivers of Europe and has twice the average discharge of This Loire (That is the longest French river), rising in the Rhône Glacier from the Swiss Alps in the far eastern end of the Swiss canton of Valais, passing through Lake Geneva and running through southeastern France.
In Arles, close to its mouth on the Mediterranean Sea, the river divides into two branches, also known as the Great Rhône (French: Le Grand Rhône) along with the Small Rhône (Le Petit Rhône). The resulting delta comprises the Camargue area.
