Ronald Mueck (born 1958, Melbourne ) is an Australian sculptor currently working in the UK. Ron Mueck grew up in the family service of puppetry and doll-making. Mueck first came to the spotlight with his sculpture “Dead Papa.”
Between 2000 and 2002, Mueck was Associate Artist at the National Gallery, London. During this two-year post, he created the works Mother and Kid, Pregnant Woman, Man in a Boat, and Swaddled Baby and culminated in an exhibit in 2003. Mueck’s most current major touring exhibition started at During 2016, Mueck displayed at the Theseus Temple, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, and Sara Hildén Art Museum, Finland.

While many contemporary arts strive to glamorize and depict our world to be better than it is, other developers discover art in our regular lives and our simple bodies. Mueck is one of those artists and is now well known for his hyper-realistic sculptures.

This solo exhibition of works by Ron Mueck, recognized for his extraordinarily realistic, compassionate renderings of his subjects, includes five significant new works commissioned by the Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain in Paris, where they were recently provided to an enthusiastic audience of 75,000 visitors. Additional works on loan from North American collections are included to the Brooklyn exhibition, the only United States discussion before the program travels to the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
Through his in-depth works, which are constantly either smaller than life-size or significant, Mueck explores the unclear relationship of reality to artifice. His earlier pieces were sculpted with fiberglass, but recently he has actually started to work with silicone, which is more flexible and allows higher ease in forming body parts and implanting hair.
