The Clear Orchid: Arctic, co-designed by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, stands out in the world of musical instruments. Created by Telepathic Instruments, which Parker co-founded with Ignacio Germade, this synthesizer is not just another gadget. It’s a fully transparent, teal-based limited edition capped at 3,000 units, available starting May 11.
A unique approach to synthesis
The Orchid is different from typical synthesizers as it focuses on chords rather than individual notes. By pressing a key, you trigger a full harmonic voicing, replacing the need for complex music theory with intuitive creativity. With controls divided into root note, chord type, and voicing, enthusiasts can explore a broad harmonic range. Three synthesis engines provide depth, ensuring a rich sound rather than a basic preset feel.
Visually and sonically compelling
The design of the Arctic edition is both an aesthetic statement and a clear communication of its functionality. With a transparent shell, you can see the intentionally laid-out green PCB, carefully routed ribbon cables, and the standout yellow and red control knobs. Alongside the Arctic, Telepathic Instruments also launches Pistil, Orchid’s companion VST plugin, compatible with both Mac and Windows. This allows the synthesizer’s engines to integrate into any digital audio workstation, expanding its creative potential. Existing owners can access the plugin at a discount, while new customers can purchase it for $99.
