LEGO‘s new Godzilla set, the lego ideas godzilla model, stands 27.5 inches tall with its Heat Ray raised. That is taller than the 24.4-inch Sagrada Família set, which holds LEGO’s all-time piece-count record. Set 21375 has 5,363 pieces and goes on sale November 27, 2026.
LEGO calls it the largest LEGO Ideas model launched so far. The design started as a fan proposal by Matthew Esposito, who uses the handle MattE720 on the LEGO Ideas platform. LEGO’s team then refined it for production.
Fans drawn to large LEGO builds may also enjoy LEGO’s 5,682-brick Venetian neighborhood set, a canal-side architectural model with plenty of detail.
The set is based on the Godzilla of Legendary’s Monsterverse films, including Godzilla in 2014 and Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019. It does not depict the Japanese Godzilla Minus One from 2023.
From fan proposal to production
Esposito submitted his Godzilla to LEGO Ideas in late 2023. He drew on the bulky silhouette from Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. The project reached 10,000 supporters in fall 2024, which sent it into LEGO’s review process.

The review board approved the set on June 17, 2025. Most LEGO Ideas sets reach stores about a year after approval. Godzilla took 17 months, which feels fair given the model’s size.

Esposito said the head was the hardest part to get right. He also said that seeing the project reach 10,000 supporters after more than two years was a major milestone.
LEGO model designers Jim Clayton and Markus Rollbühler developed the official model. Creative design lead Jordan David Scott also worked on it. Amber Sheppo, Legendary’s SVP of Consumer Products and Partnerships, said Esposito’s original vision was the starting point for the project. The set is a licensed collaboration with Legendary Entertainment. Toho holds the Godzilla trademark.
What LEGO changed
The fan build of lego ideas godzilla used a dark gray body with black spines. Up close it looked menacing. From a distance, it read as one dark mass. LEGO lightened the torso to a brighter gray and gave the dorsal fins vivid blue tones.

The official lego ideas godzilla eyes are blue. Esposito’s version used printed or stickered studs for the eyes. LEGO also changed the proportions, shrinking the head and arms relative to the torso and the thick legs. The result is bottom-heavy and closer to how the character looks on screen.

The set uses textured bricks for the scaly skin and jagged elements for the fins. Shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers are posable. The tail can be built to curve left or right, so choose the side before you start the build.
The tail is rigid, which adds stability but limits movement. Tilting the head sets the gaze either straight up or slightly forward. The model cannot walk on all fours, because the front joints cannot support its weight of more than 5,000 pieces.
The Heat Ray replaces the tongue. The tongue is built from four pieces. The blue beam recreates the skyward Atomic Breath from the films. The adjustable head tilt lets the gaze point either straight up or slightly forward.
