Brad Spencer

Stone sculptor and brick artist, Brad Spencer’s work is often inspired by the ancient art of masonry. He explains that his fascination with sculpture in architecture began when he saw a relief carving on an old school building near where he grew up called “The Spirit of Reidsville.” The intricate design reminded him how much architects depended on artists like himself to create enduring works for their buildings – so it was natural for him to go into this niche after graduating from Western Carolina University (WCU). Living close proximity to many clay deposits also influenced some decisions about what types of materials are used in his sculptures. His process for creating these pieces typically involves using hand tools such as hammers and chisels rather than power equipment.
