Faya Sanders In 1987, Portland International Airport (PDX) installed a teal carpet with geometric shapes designed by SRG Architects. Over the years, the unique carpet would gain a cult following, somehow amassing over 20,000 followers on Instagram @PDXcarpet. PDX began pulling up the carpet earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean that it will be forgotten.
For his latest collaboration with Adidas, Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard is paying homage to the PDX carpet with the D Lillard 1 “PDX Carpet.” The shoe features the iconic pattern across the teal upper and an adiprene+ midsole with purple tonal snakeskin print on the heel, toecap and TECHFIT booty. On the right tongue is printed “DAME” and on the left “#PDXCARPET.” And it’s all tied together with purple laces.
The D Lillard 1 “PDX Carpet” will be available beginning May 23 for $125.
