A Functional Fusion of Elegance and Utility
In a striking collaboration with Prague-based Frayer, designer Marek Kounovský of MK Designers has created the bamboo handle table, a bamboo coffee table that challenges conventional design by incorporating hidden storage. This creation’s minimalist construction conceals everyday clutter while presenting a clean, contemporary silhouette.
The design is inspired by the Japanese principle of hodo-hodo, meaning “just enough.” This philosophy guides the table’s emphasis on proportion and geometry, avoiding elaborate mechanisms or unnecessary embellishments. Each component serves a specific purpose, allowing the material and function to take precedence.
Bamboo Handle Table: Thoughtful Design Meets Practicality
A key feature is the discreet storage compartment built directly into the structure. This allows for concealed storage of items like remotes and magazines without compromising the table’s aesthetic. The integrated handle, elegantly fashioned into the tabletop, enhances mobility, making it suitable for dynamic living spaces where furniture needs to be versatile.

Material Integrity through Bamboo
The piece is crafted primarily from bamboo, showcasing its natural grain and texture. An oil-based wood stain enhances the bamboo’s inherent beauty without disguising it, delivering a finish that highlights the raw material’s depth. This attention to natural aesthetics underscores the table’s minimalist elements.
Exquisite Simplicity Unveiled
First showcased at the 14th Czech Design Week in Prague, the table perfectly encapsulates Frayer’s expertise in bamboo craftsmanship and Kounovský’s design ethos. It balances practical needs with an uncluttered presentation, ensuring essentials like storage and portability are seamlessly integrated.
This item stands as a testament to the belief that simplicity and functionality can coexist without overshadowing aesthetics. By focusing on essential features, Kounovský demonstrates that a well-conceived design can beautifully fulfill its purpose without excess.
