When Sophia Vogel enters into her subjects’ houses to include them in her photo series Without and With, she asks them what hobbies they are into. When they say “listening to music” or “playing with my cat,” Sophia requests them to do the job regularly and after that repeat it with no clothes. She snaps pictures during both of these times and after that presents them to get a side by side comparison.
“I wish to point out that being naked should feel just as natural as being clothed,” she told Creators.
Seeing someone in his bare flesh still appears voyeuristic, although true, nudity is less of a taboo than it was some decades ago. “The pressure of being a sexual being is omnipresent for every single human being,” Vogel said. “We are observed and judged daily, as well as the fashion industry lavishes beauty ideals and criticism on us. We establish high criteria for ourselves. I want to speak up against these ridiculous standards.”
“By presenting a variety of different body contours and natural bearings I’d love to reveal that everybody is amazing inside their very own manner.” “I love to present nudity in an aesthetic way without any sexual circumstance. Not every single naked picture needs to be linked to sexuality.”
Her subjects are not models, but regular individuals who feel linked to the project of Vogel and reached out via Instagram, email, or word-of-mouth. The artist already featured other volunteers, dentists, lawyers, as well as teachers.
