Cinematographer Roger A. Deakins is best known for his work on films such as “Skyfall,” “Sicario,” and “Blade Runner 2049.” He has been quietly amassing a black-and-white photograph collection that captures his unique sense of irony and wit throughout the last five decades. From the mid-1970s on, Byways was published in a monograph with black-and-white pictures that roamed rural North Devon, the English coast, and distant locales throughout the world. The images document Deakins’s unusual and peculiar encounters with life worldwide. The new book, which includes a slew of previously unseen photographs, is now available from Damiani.
