RØDE, commonly referred to as Rode, has introduced the RodeCaster Video 1.4, a free firmware update enhancing its all-in-one video production consoles: the RodeCaster Video, RodeCaster Video S, and RodeCaster Video Core. This upgrade transforms the consoles into powerful hubs for 4K UHD video capture and distribution.

Launched two years ago, the RodeCaster Video series aims to simplify video production workflows, integrating video switching, recording, and processing tools along with professional-grade audio capabilities. The latest firmware brings the highly anticipated 4K capture mode, allowing the devices to handle four 4Kp60 camera feeds, outputting each as a unique NDI stream—a feature integral for platforms like OBS and eCamm Live. The RodeCaster Video S and RodeCaster Video Core can accept three 4K HDMI feeds.

Enhancements and New Features

While embracing 4K resolution significantly elevates video quality, some functionalities such as switching and multi-cam arrangements see reductions in this mode. The update also includes a 1080p60 Capture mode option for those who prefer alternative feed configurations.

This integration, now extended to the original Video and Video S models, streamlines audio-video workflows, centralized on the RodeCaster Video’s drive.

Enhanced Editing and Connectivity with RodeCaster Video 4K Update

In addition to video upgrades, firmware 1.4 empowers all RodeCaster Video devices to export timeline data (OTIO) for Adobe Premiere Pro and other NLEs, complementing DaVinci Resolve ELD Export support introduced in the previous firmware. Moreover, these devices can now receive audio input from compatible USB webcams.
