Kempinas produced a semi-transparent passage created from extended lengths of magnetic tape. Visitors are invited to walk through the tube which runs out of the chapel entrance to the altar. As they march, their perception of the enclosing architectural attributes is blemished and obscured by the tape, making a peculiar”tunnel vision.”

For the next installation, titled Scarecrow, Kempinas made another corridor from magnetic tape at the docks of Bordeaux. Engulfing the pedestrian pathway from the water, people walk beneath the long lines of tape that create a visual vibration and change the perception of space.

If you’re in Bordeaux, you can view both of Kempinas’ tape installments for yourself until August 20, 2019. If you can’t make it into France, scroll down to see images from the installations and check out more of his job on his site.
