Dizzying Room Illusions by Peter Kogler

With dizzying wall graphics evocative of warped funhouse mirrors, designer Peter Kogler converts extraordinary galleries, transit facilities, and lobbies into near hallucinatory experiences. For over 30 years, the Austrian designer has labored at the intersection of structure and new media to build each mesmeric environments and sculptural parts that appear to redefine physical areas. By gluing walls with optical illusions he challenges a viewer’s sense of depth with his difficult monochromatic installations of repeating patterns that contain pipes, ants, and daring snake-like patterns.

Kogler’s most recent murals had been on view at the ING Art Center in Brussels and at ERES-Stiftung in Munich earlier this year. You can see a lot more on his website.
