The Krank’s Compelling Installation
In the last major undeveloped coastal ecosystem of Erimitis, Corfu, artist The Krank unveils a striking 50-meter-long erimitis land art installation, titled Wound. This vivid piece draws inspiration from the existing movement to protect the region and visually symbolizes the scars left by human intervention. Stretched along the shoreline, a vivid red incision cuts through the landscape, held together by stark black stitches.
Wound is more than art; it’s a collaborative effort involving the local community and the Save Erimitis initiative. The act of stitching becomes a shared gesture, uniting efforts to safeguard this fragile ecosystem. Despite the damage, the stitches suggest healing, connecting the community’s past efforts to future possibilities of the artwork.

The Erimitis Land Art Installation and Echoes of Past and Future Development
The conflict over Erimitis dates back to 2012 when development plans threatened its natural ecosystem. The proposed Kassiopi Project aimed to construct a luxury hotel, numerous villas, and a marina, sparking years of legal battles and environmental advocacy. Though some construction began in 2021, the project stalled, leaving its future uncertain.
As an land artist, The Krank positions Wound in this liminal space, marking both the past imprint of bulldozers and the uncertain future of the creation. The artwork’s red incision and stitches offer a lens through which to view the ongoing saga of alteration and conservation efforts.

From Shoreline to Collective Symbolism
During installation, The Krank secured the vibrant fabric with stones from the beach, transforming the natural materials into an integral part of the installation. Community members participated in placing the stitches, grounding the symbolic act of care in the collective’s fervor over the years.

A public walk invites visitors to explore Wound, positioned between the coast and wetlands. The detail of where the red fabric meets the rocky terrain underscores the site’s visible transformation as part of this ambitious project.
