Type 01 is a luxury four-door GT. Jaguar says it embodies the company’s renewed vision of modern luxury, combining dramatic design, craftsmanship and innovation. It is the first of a new generation of Jaguars and the first Jaguar production car born under the exuberant modernist creative philosophy.

Process

It is designed, developed and built in the UK. It is the first production Jaguar created on Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a dedicated platform. Designers and engineers worked together on more than 7,000 wind tunnel tests to optimize aerodynamic efficiency, with hidden technology and precision refinements.

Jaguar’s engineering push toward lighter, faster electric grand tourers has parallels in smaller performance builds, such as the Nichols N1A lightweight sports car inspired by McLaren, which shows how much power a compact body can carry.

The large flat hood is formed from a single body pressing bonded to an innovative subframe. The aluminum bodyside has a rear quarter panel that goes through a six-stage pressing process, designed to evoke the flick of a pen. The Impossible Panel houses frameless doors that close directly against the body.

Type 01 Dimensions and Aerodynamics

The car measures 208in (5,235mm) long and 55in (1,403mm) tall. It has a drag coefficient of 0.23Cd and is the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever made. The luxury gap measures 898mm, or 17 percent of the car’s total length, which is almost the same proportion as the E-type.

The launch marks a major milestone in the strategy JLR first set out for Jaguar in 2021. It inaugurates a new era for the brand. Jaguar says JEA enables an entirely new approach to design, proportions and occupant experience. Achieving the vision for a modern electric GT with four doors and more than 1,000HP required a new body architecture.

The name references both Jaguar’s lineage and its all-electric future. “Type” nods to iconic predecessors, “0” signifies zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks the first of a new generation.

JLR is targeting double-digit growth over the next five years. Since announcing its £15-18 billion five-year investment programme in 2024, it has invested £11.5 billion in engineering, designing and manufacturing its next-generation vehicles, with most of that spent in the UK. Nearly 9,000 employees at the Solihull site have been retrained to build electric vehicles, with a further 1,500 colleagues trained across JLR’s wider West Midlands operations. Jaguar production will also support the 60,000 jobs sustained by JLR’s wider supplier network in the West Midlands.

This Jaguar electric car will be built in Solihull on a dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture. Electric Drive Units and battery packs are made in Wolverhampton, and pressed body panels are manufactured in Halewood, Merseyside.

Jaguar’s electrified future also reflects a wider shift among British carmakers, and Vauxhall’s new flag-less griffin logo for EVs offers a look at how a heritage marque is redrawing its identity for battery power.

The new Jaguar Type 01 was unveiled in New York. The press release is datelined Gaydon, UK, 7 October 2026. Work on production lines is at an advanced stage, with production due to begin in 2027.
