Loog, the company that makes instruments for children, has released its first bass. The new fender loog precision bass is a three-string instrument built with Fender, and it is the first bass the two companies have made together.
Loog specialises in small stringed instruments, including guitars and ukuleles for children aged three and up. Its smallest models have three strings. Its nine-plus range has six, as on the Loog Pro 6, a slightly scaled-down acoustic and electric guitar for adults. The Loog Piano sits between a child-sized scale and a higher level of build quality.
Loog’s shrunken take on a classic instrument has a parallel in Roland’s compact revival of a 1980s synth, which shows how modern makers rework iconic designs. Roland’s compact Jupiter-08 synthesizer, a modern classic is worth a look for anyone curious about the same approach in music gear.

Loog has built its catalogue on partnerships with well-known brands. Gibson and Fender are the biggest names in that list. There are also Beatles and Hello Kitty tie-ins for younger buyers who follow pop culture.

The two new models are a Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster and the bass. The launch marks the 75th anniversary of the Precision Bass and the 80th birthday of the Telecaster. The Butterscotch finish first appeared 75 years ago, and the Telecaster also drew a birthday tribute from designer Sir Paul Smith.

Two three-string models with full-size detail
Both guitars keep the three-string format Loog uses across its smaller range. The designers still carried over detail from the full-size originals. The bass has a thumb rest, and the Telecaster has a lipstick pickup.
Rafael Atijas, Loog’s CEO, founded the company in 2011. He says the bass has personal meaning. “Launching Loog’s first bass alongside the 75th anniversary of the Precision Bass is especially meaningful. It’s also full circle for me, since bass was the first instrument I played at 13.” He adds that a small Telecaster gives children a way to engage with a landmark instrument in a playful manner.

The fender loog precision bass draws on the 1951 original
The design is based on the 1951 Precision Bass, which is widely regarded as the first mass-produced electric bass guitar. The scale length is ultra-short, which makes this loog childrens bass compact for a young player to handle.
The body carries a single pickup and a volume control, both set into a distinctive pickguard. Oversized tuners sit at the headstock, and the neck is narrow. The result is a small instrument that still produces the punchy tone associated with the original design.
Fender’s current reference point is the American Vintage II 1954 Precision Bass. Placing the two side by side shows how closely the Loog version follows the adult model’s proportions and features.

Plugging in and practising
Both instruments include a standard quarter-inch output jack. Players can connect them to a regular amplifier or to Loog’s Mini Amp Pro. Owners also get access to the Loog Guitar app, which offers lessons and exercises for building technique.
The bass costs $229.99, £199 or €229. It comes in White Blonde, Candy Apple Red, Sea Foam Green, and a limited-edition Hello Kitty Black. The Telecaster is priced the same and comes in Butterscotch Blonde with a black pickguard. Both models are sold through Loog’s own website.
If the Loog bass has you thinking about revived classics, Sony has done something similar with its audio hardware. Sony’s gold-infused Walkman revival for audiophiles shows how a beloved original can return with premium materials and fresh detail.
Seventy-five years after the Precision Bass set the template for electric bass, this instrument gives young players a version small enough for them to hold. It offers a direct link to one of the instrument’s defining designs.
