Leila Jeffreys

Thanks to her adventurous parents - photographic artist, birdwatcher, and environmentalist -- Leila Jeffreys grew up surrounded by wildlife from Australia and abroad. They ignited a passion for nature and a passion for conservation which have influenced her photographic work.

After discovering how unengaged people seemed to be with critters, she started working on a set of portrait sessions, hoping to depict birds in a way that exhibited their extraordinary beauty and diversity and to inspire a deeper concern for their well-being. Her first solo exhibition centered on budgies, the omnipresent family pet. Then, for the next show, she worked alongside wildlife carers to make a series of pictures of wild cockatoos. This was followed closely by 'Prey', which focused on Australia's hunting creatures and has since worked on several displays exhibited around the world.
