New York-based illustrator Chris Buzelli illustrates character-driven images with a spectacular sense of realism. Working essentially in oil, artist renders various concepts that based on the real world with a universal acceptance of magic. Often, his characters seem to enter a spiritual realm, as if caught between two realities in a dreamlike country. Inspired by literature, especially his commissions for book reviews, Buzelli’s art makes references to stories and myths, featuring hybrid monsters and incredible scenes from the likes of Little Red Riding Hood and Finnish writer Jean Sibelius’s The Swan of Tuonela. Meanwhile, a skeletal swan floats elegantly in a pond. Take a look at some of Buzelli’s work below.
