Apple’s thinnest iPhone is now a foldable. The iPhone Duo measures 0.20 inches (5.2mm) unfolded, which took the title from the 5.6mm iPhone Air after just one year. Fresh iphone air 2 leaks suggest the Air 2 could match that figure.
Korean blogger yeux1122 posted the 5.2mm figure in October. Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station says the Air 2 will add a second 48MP camera and grow its battery to 3,500mAh, up from 3,149mAh in the original. Analyst Jeff Pu adds a 48MP Ultra Wide camera, a 2nm A20 Pro chip, and a slightly smaller Dynamic Island to the list.
The Air 2 may thin out partly through a Samsung display technology called CoE, short for Color Filter on Encapsulation. CoE reportedly makes the OLED panel thinner. The same outlet reports that a vapor chamber, the cooling component used in the Duo, will help manage heat from the A20 Pro.

iphone air 2 leaks: a plateau and a Pixel-style pill
The original Air is built around its plateau, a raised strip that runs the full width of the back. The strip houses the A19 Pro chip and the 48MP Fusion camera, leaving the lower body free for the battery. The Tech Town renders shrink that strip into a rounded pill inset from the edges, with two lenses on the left and a flash and microphone on the right.
Google took a similar route. The Pixel 6 introduced an edge-to-edge camera visor in 2021, and the Pixel 9 pulled it in from the sides into a floating pill in 2024. Unverified photos said to show Air 2 packaging also depict two cameras in a horizontal row.
Across these iphone air 2 leaks, the resemblance looks like convergent evolution. On a phone this thin, a raised band gives camera hardware the depth it needs, and two sensors side by side follow naturally. The weak point in the renders is the lens rings, which stand proud of a plateau that already protrudes from the back. That two-step bump works against a phone sold on thinness, and Apple’s final design may flatten it. Sky Blue, already an Air color, looks strong in these renders.
A second camera and a larger battery
The Ultra Wide camera may be the most visible upgrade in the iphone air 2 leaks. The original Air’s single Fusion camera offers 2x crops but cannot pull back far enough to fit a full dinner table into the frame. On recent iPhones, the Ultra Wide also powers macro mode, which could bring close-up shots of latte art and small insects to the Air 2.
The battery increase is modest on paper, roughly 350mAh. Its effect on endurance will depend on the 2nm chip and on real-world testing. Pu also expects a slightly smaller Dynamic Island, which would free a sliver of the 6.5-inch screen.
Much of the rumored hardware in these iphone air 2 leaks already exists in the iPhone Duo. The Duo went on sale October 23 with the A20 Pro, a vapor chamber, and a 5.2mm body when unfolded. Pu expects the Air 2 to carry over other specifications from the original Air, including 12GB of RAM and the 18MP Center Stage front camera. If the thickness rumor holds, Apple would have two 5.2mm phones on sale at once.
Fewer rivals in the thin-phone race
Samsung appears to be stepping back from ultra-thin flagships. The Galaxy S25 Edge launched at 0.23 inches (5.8mm) and $1,099. Korean outlet The Elec reported that development of the S26 Edge has been halted. Digital Chat Station says other phone makers are also rethinking their thin models.
That could leave the iphone air 2 with fewer big-name rivals next year. In Apple’s US lineup, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the iPhone Duo at $1,999. The Air 2 could price below both.
