Dutch wildlife photographer Roeselien Raimond loves foxes, which drives her to capture stunning photos of the creatures in their natural habitats. Her latest series, captured during cold winter months, features foxes covered in snow. The resulting images are beautiful and evocative, providing a unique glimpse into the lives of red foxes.
Despite living in a big city, Raimond frequently goes into the wilderness to find her animal subjects. This implies being trapped in one place for lengthy times, which is generally unpleasant. “When I shot these foxes, it was -12°C (10.4°F), which is quite cold in this location,” Raimond explains to Freeyork. “I was lost in a blizzard and completely enthralled by the experience. It was only when it got dark that I realized how hungry and hypothermic I had gotten.” However, her perseverance is well worth it, as she gets up close and personal with foxes from all sorts of angles.
The foxes seem to be entirely at ease in the blizzard in this collection. The fox’s eyes are closed in many shots as snowflakes cover its thick fur, and it lies down in the layers of snow in others. “I’ve spent the past ten years studying fox behavior and have met a lot of foxes,” adds Raimond. “I never could have guessed that a ferocious predator would be so kind. They are also intriguing creatures with a sophisticated nature, making them appealing to observe.”
