Anbernic, a renowned name in the gaming console world, has introduced the RG DS Plus, a dual-screen handheld that elevates its predecessor’s design. Inspired by the iconic Nintendo DS, this device includes a capacitive stylus ideal for games like Stardew Valley and Vampire Survivors.

Features of the dual-screen handheld
The RG DS Plus operates on a Linux-based OS, housing a new dual-screen emulator called NNDSS. This system supports a microphone, seamless screen swapping, and offers 76 shader options alongside a real-time clock and instant save feature. Both screens are 4.3 inches with a resolution of 1024×768, supporting 4x pixel scaling. The lower display includes touch functionality, enhanced by a durable dual alloy hinge allowing smooth, adjustable positioning. A set of four digital shoulder buttons and an analog stick enhance gameplay ergonomics.

The device features dual USB-C ports, dual microSD slots, a headphone jack, and front-facing speakers. However, it retains the Rockchip RK3568 chipset from its predecessor, which might concern some users. Anbernic opted to remove built-in eMMC memory to maintain affordability. In collaboration with @TheGammaSqueeze, the RAM has been reduced to 1GB from the former 3GB. Despite this, the “Plus” title signifies its larger size and expanded capabilities.

What truly sets the RG DS Plus apart is its integrated stylus and microphone, adding versatility beyond competitors like AYANEO. Offered in Metallic Blue, Matte Black, and Coral Pink, the console is priced below $100, with a special launch offer reducing it to approximately $90 for early buyers. No official release date has been announced yet, but keen observers can expect more updates soon.
