Adaptable Design in the Heart of Osaka
In Japan, SHIOYA DESIGN Studio has crafted a two-generation residence centered around a unique ‘free space.’ This approximately 183-square-meter wood-framed home reimagines flexible living by integrating a gymnasium-like area adaptable to various sports and family activities.

Osaka House Free Space: A Space for All Activities
The ‘free space’ was originally meant for judo practice but evolved into a multifunctional area suitable for basketball, golf, bouldering, and more. This versatile area features a retractable golf net, basketball hoop, court markings, and a bouldering wall. The space allows for rapid transformation with the rearrangement of tatami mats, making it ready for different activities in just 15 minutes.
