Motorola wants its new Motorola Signature 27 remembered for one number: 12,000 nits of peak screen brightness. The phone is also being billed as the world’s fastest Android smartphone, and it starts at $1,599. That price places it among the most expensive slab phones sold in the U.S.
Motorola formally announced the phone on November 5, 2026, after teasing it in September. The company says the device marks the return of a Motorola flagship to the premium market.

Speed, cooling and memory
The Motorola Signature 27 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Motorola calls it Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile processor to date, according to Mashable. PetaPixel describes the chip’s layout as an eight-core CPU with six performance cores.
None of the sources reviewed includes independent benchmark results. The speed claim is therefore untested in this article.
Untested speed claims are easier to weigh against measured results, such as Apple’s A20 Pro Chip Performance Gains for a rival flagship.
To manage heat, Motorola equipped the phone with what it calls an “ArcticMesh” cooling system. Mashable reports that it uses diamond-infused thermal gel and a large 3D vapor chamber.
Mashable says the 512GB configuration is the one that starts at $1,599.
Cameras: second place, not first
Motorola says the Motorola Signature 27 has the world’s best camera system, citing a DxOMark assessment. DxOMark did rate the phone highly, but it did not rank it first. The company placed it second among smartphone camera systems, behind the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, which launched last year.

PetaPixel reports that the Signature 27 sits just ahead of the Apple iPhone 18 Pro in that ranking. The main camera is a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 910 sensor with LOFIC technology. LOFIC, or lateral overflow integration capacitor, is a sensor design that PetaPixel says promises wider dynamic range and better low-light image quality, all else being equal.
The Lytia 910 is a Type 1/1.28 sensor. Motorola does not name the maker of its telephoto and ultrawide sensors. It does list the telephoto as a Type 1/1.56 sensor and the ultrawide as a Type 1/2.76 sensor. PetaPixel notes that these are fairly standard sizes among high-end phones.
The telephoto lens is a 200-megapixel periscope with up to 100x Super Zoom, which Mashable says is powered by an AI tool called “Super Zoom Pro.” The ultrawide is 50 megapixels, and the front camera is also 50 megapixels.

The phone also has a fourth sensor on the back. Motorola calls it a dedicated EVS action sensor and says it is the first of its kind on a smartphone. PetaPixel explains that EVS stands for Event Vision Sensor. The sensor detects pixel-level changes in light intensity in real time and works with Action Mode to freeze fast-moving subjects.
The Signature 27’s dedicated action sensor is an unusual bet, and iPhone 18 Pro Variable Aperture Camera Breakthrough shows a rival taking a different hardware route to photography.
PetaPixel describes the sensor as more of an assistant than a standalone camera. The outlet plans a full review of the phone to test how well it performs.
Motorola Signature 27 display and battery
The screen is the feature Motorola emphasizes most. Sources disagree on its size. PetaPixel describes a 6.9-inch LTPO Extreme AMOLED panel, while Mashable and Tech Insider describe a 6.8-inch tandem display. Both describe a tandem OLED design that stacks two emissive layers, a construction Mashable compares to the panels in Apple’s iPad Pro.
Motorola rates the display at up to 12,000 nits of peak brightness. PetaPixel points out that this is localized peak brightness, not full-screen brightness. It will likely appear only in very specific situations. Mashable says the screen should be the brightest it has tested on a smartphone by a wide margin.

The battery is a 7,000mAh cell. Motorola rates it for up to 77 hours of use per charge. Mashable compares that rating with the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which has a 5,567mAh battery that Apple’s figures put at up to 45 hours. Those battery figures come from Motorola’s rating, not from a Mashable test.
Audio is the third pillar of the pitch. Motorola and Bang & Olufsen announced a multi-year partnership last month, and Mashable suggests it should be the first of many. Motorola says the phone is the only one on the market with Audio by Bang & Olufsen and touts an all-new speaker architecture. Mashable calls the sound “tuned by” the luxury audio brand. Neither claim has been independently tested in the sources reviewed.
Tech Insider reports that Motorola promises seven major Android updates for the phone. Mashable says the phone supports the latest Gemini Intelligence features, including Rambler and Create My Widget.
Price, colors and release dates
The Motorola Signature 27 starts at $1,599 with 512GB of storage. That puts it level with Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, which Mashable calls its current favorite Android splurge. Samsung raised the S26 Ultra’s price by $100 in early October because of the ongoing memory crisis. A 512GB S26 Ultra now sells for $1,599.99.

Motorola’s website says the Signature 27 is designed and manufactured by or for Motorola Mobility LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lenovo. Buyers can choose between two Pantone finishes: Coal Smoke and Capulet Olive.
The release dates differ by source. 9to5Google reports a U.S. launch on November 19. Mashable, citing CNET, says preorders begin November 19 and U.S. sales start November 26. Until a retailer publishes a ship date, the later date is the safer planning assumption.
The Signature 27 makes a clear bet on brightness, battery life and sound. The camera ranking and speed claims still need testing in real use. Buyers paying $1,599 for the Motorola Signature 27 should wait for sustained brightness results and battery tests before deciding whether the phone earns its price.
