Reimagining a historic venue in Gemmayzeh
In the vibrant Gemmayzeh district of Beirut, Club Amis emerges as a masterful blend of historical architecture and contemporary design. Rabih Geha Architects revitalized a traditional Lebanese residence for Pernod Ricard Middle East, crafting a dynamic space that serves as both a hub for hospitality professionals by day and a lively social venue by night. The venue’s versatility is anchored in a design that marries immersive interior environments with layers of conviviality and adaptability.
Dynamic functionalities of Club Amis
You’ll find Club Amis pulsating with life throughout the day. It transforms from a training ground for bartenders and hospitality aficionados to an evening social arena pulsated by guest chefs and cultural events. This dual identity influences the spatial design, where rooms cater to varying atmospheres and interactive experiences, resonating with the distinct identities of different Pernod Ricard brands.
A celebration of material contrasts and lighting
Hold your breath as you step into the main bar—a spectacle of bold blue tones, striped motifs linked to the Pernod Ricard logo, and circular lighting fixtures that echo its emblem. The use of stainless steel, fluted glass, and amber-lit shelving creates visual depth and intrigue, while mirrored elements add layers of reflection.

The adjoining Jameson and Chivas rooms invite exploration with mirrored ceilings and distinctive material palettes. The Jameson room envelops you in darker greens with textured glass and a circular seating arrangement that fosters an intimate acoustic experience. In contrast, the Chivas room exudes warmth with wooden finishes and open seating that encourages dialogue.
The Malfy terrace and other highlights
Step outside to the Malfy terrace, where Mediterranean influences come alive through patterned wall panels, greenery, and tables mimicking Malfy bottle silhouettes, perfect for open-air gatherings. The Studio Rabih Geha Architects extends this sophisticated narrative further with uniquely designed spaces like the House of Hackney-attired washroom and the Absolut Vodka-inspired Mixology Academy, where meticulous spatial design combines with technical prowess.
A dialogue between heritage and modernity
The historic gem retains its soul with restored architectural elements such as marble flooring and original tiling, seamlessly interwoven with contemporary materials like textured glass and mirrored finishes. New mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are discreetly integrated, ensuring the building’s legacy is preserved while embracing the future.
In essence, Club Amis, envisioned by Rabih Geha Architects, is more than a space—it’s a narrative brought to life through adaptive reuse and innovative design strategies, celebrating craftsmanship, interaction, and storytelling within Beirut’s cherished architectural heritage.
