Based in Sweden, visual artist Anastasia Savinova creates complex collages of photographs from her travels to display each city’s distinct atmosphere. Titled ‘Genius Loci’, the series of artworks was inspired by the ancient Roman term indicating the “protective spirit of a place”. Each of the collages consists of one large building, made from various snapshots of parts and objects typical of the respective city. Holding a Master’s degree in design, Savinova has already exhibited her artworks throughout Sweden.
Speaking of the process of the project, the artist states: “Travelling around cities and countries, I take pictures of buildings, look into windows sneakily, go to local shops, flea markets and bars, watch everyday life – all this helps to build the feeling of the place.”
