Hand-Sculpted Clay Portraits by Irma Gruenholz

by Seth Sebastian 2015-10-02, 6:21 PMupdated 2017-09-02, 9:09 PM

In a delicate balance of sculpting, painting, and photography, Madrid-based artist Irma Gruenholz creates portraits that could easily be confused with 2D images found in storybooks. Gruenholz points to her pieces as clay illustrations and works with a mixture of materials including modeling clay and plasticine to achieve various effects. Her work issues in advertisements, books, posters, and magazines around the world.
