Jennifer Bolande’s Billboards That Promote the Surrounding California Scenery

Jennifer Bolande‘s work Observable Distance / Second Sight, is not merely one that you stop your own car at and detect, its not one that even requires slowing to admire, in reality. The billboard installation that is several stretches alongside the Gene Autry Trail and Vista Chino in California, bordering the roads behind each piece that peak outside with panoramic images of the same mountains. In a few instances, the images fit perfectly with the encompassing range, while the display is zoomed past by one, creating an alignment of fabricated reality.

By placing pictures of the environment beside the roadway, Bolande hopes to point passersby back to the landscape itself.
