Louis Vuitton has built a $25,200 watch whose mirror-polished case is designed to resist the marks that ruin polished steel. The Tambour Convergence Mirror Steel, reference W9ST11, is a louis vuitton tambour steel model that replaces the gold and platinum of earlier models with a hardened stainless steel case. The material is the story here.
The Tambour line dates to 2002, and its name comes from the French word for drum, a nod to the case’s drum-shaped profile. Louis Vuitton added the Tambour Convergence in 2025 as its take on the traditional montre à guichet. A guichet, or window watch, displays time through small openings instead of a conventional dial and hands.

The first Convergence models came in pink gold with a mirror finish, pink gold with guilloché engraving, and platinum set with 795 snow-set diamonds, according to The1916 Company. The new Mirror Steel is the first to use hardened steel.
Luxury watchmakers keep finding new ways to turn metal into a statement, as Hublot’s Koons Balloon Dog Timepieces in Anodized Aluminum shows with its bright, playful take on case design.
A harder case for a scratch-prone finish
Louis Vuitton says a patented treatment raises the case’s surface hardness by nearly six times, to 1,130 Vickers. For comparison, traditional 316L stainless steel sits at around 150 Vickers and high-tech ceramic, which is only slightly above 1,130 Vickers. Monochrome Watches puts standard 316L at around 150 Vickers.

Louis Vuitton has not disclosed the exact alloy composition.
The brand does not specify the exact steel composition of this louis vuitton tambour steel case. Louis Vuitton argues that this purity, combined with the hardening treatment, helps the finish stay clear longer than most polished metal watches.

Why the louis vuitton tambour steel finish takes longer to make
Harder steel is harder to polish, and that cost falls on any luxury watch with a mirror finish. Artisans at La Fabrique des Boîtiers, need up to three times as long to finish a Mirror Steel case as a rose gold one, according to Wallpaper and Monochrome Watches. Hand polishing covers the case, the crown, and the outer lugs. The inner lug surfaces are micro-bead blasted to add contrast.
The case measures 37mm across and 8mm thick. It keeps the sapphire crystal front and back, and it is water resistant to 30 meters.

Matthieu Hegi, artistic director of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, told Wallpaper that the team wanted to keep the cold look of the mirror effect intact while preserving the added strength of steel. The brand had good reason to aim for that look. The1916 Company’s Forster reported that a press sample of the pink gold mirror-dial model already showed fine hairlines, despite careful handling.
Reading time through an arched window
There is no conventional dial or hands on this louis vuitton tambour steel. Two satin-brushed brass discs, given a rhodium treatment, rotate behind an arched window at 12 o’clock. Black numerals and indexes sit on the discs, and a sculpted lozenge between the two openings serves as the reading marker. Louis Vuitton says the aperture’s shape draws on a decorative motif from the brand’s family home in Asnières, France.

The hours and minutes drag rather than jump. The discs move continuously, so the hour does not change in a single instant at the top of each hour, which is how a jumping-hour display works.

The watch runs on the automatic Calibre LFT MA01.01, which has 201 components and 26 jewels, according to Louis Vuitton’s specification. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and holds a 45-hour power reserve. An 18K rose gold oscillating weight is visible through the sapphire caseback. The movement is shared with the Spin Time collection, Monochrome notes.
The louis vuitton tambour steel sits on a grey Saffiano calf leather strap with a strengthened steel pin buckle. Louis Vuitton lists it as part of its permanent collection at $25,200. Monochrome lists the price as EUR 26,000 and CHF 21,600, both including taxes. The rose gold version costs EUR 38,000, according to Monochrome Watches.
