Vaonis has introduced the Vaonis Atlas Smart Telescope, a modular smart telescope reminiscent of a DSLR camera with interchangeable lenses. Aiming for versatility and advanced features, this telescope builds upon Vaonis’s existing smart telescopes with a unique capability to support multiple optical setups.
The Versatility of the Vaonis Atlas Smart Telescope
The Atlas, positioned at the premium end of Vaonis’s offerings, features professional-grade optics. The first in its lineup, the Atlas 80, includes an 80mm apochromatic quadruplet design, a focal length of 360mm, and an f/4.5 aperture. It integrates a Sony IMX585 sensor, which boasts an 8.3-megapixel resolution ideal for astrophotography. The entire setup, including the Atlas 80 and mount, weighs 14.3 pounds (6.5 kilograms) and measures 16.1 inches (41 centimeters). The equipment is engineered to deliver high-quality results for both amateur and professional astronomers.

Vaonis has grand ambitions for the Atlas system, planning to introduce additional modules and features. Future configurations for the telescope include the “SkyTwin,” allowing users to mount two Atlas 80 tubes simultaneously. This dual setup enhances light gathering and image quality, while different filters can be combined for diverse astrophotographic results.

The Vaonis Atlas Smart Telescope introduces the new SkyGuard feature, an all-sky camera designed to monitor conditions both day and night, and capture comprehensive timelapses of the night sky. Furthermore, the instrument will soon support equatorial mode with a planned equatorial wedge, and it offers remote operation from virtually anywhere. The use of Vaonis Atlas optics ensures stellar performance across various configurations.

“Atlas redefines telescopic capabilities,” says Cyril Dupuy, Vaonis founder. The system promises growth alongside user expertise and interests, breaking traditional limits of telescope functionality.
