The streets of Câmara de Lobos, Madeira Island, Portugal were lately lit up by some of the unique lamps we’ve ever seen, made of recycled washing machine drums.
Volunteers from cultural association Teatro Metaphora worked for six months to turn 133 restored old washing machine drums into this wonderful light installation for the festival of São Pedro.
One of the group’s goals is to promote ecological well-being and responsible usage of materials. And people stood by this idea as the initial aim was 100 drums, but once the goal was reached, people continued to bring more.
