Inspired by an interest in the biological process of cell division, artist Jiyong Lee fabricates translucent design functions of segmented glass parts fused through cold working methods. Some bits intentionally take the kind of organic life with names like “White-orange Chromosome Segmentation” or even “Geometric mobile membrane segmentation” while some are decidedly more geometric. Born and raised in South Korea, Lee has helmed the glass program at Southern Illinois University because 2005. He most recently had a solo exhibit using Clara Scremini Gallery in Paris, and you may see a lot more of his bits on Artsy.
