A short distance from Downtown Los Angeles, the historic St. Vincent Medical Center is witnessing an incredible transition. Once a pivotal healthcare institution, its latest role as an “a full-service campus” aims to provide resources for addiction, mental health, and housing. However, before this transformation, the building hosts the “Hospital of Emotions,” a unique art exhibit available until July 31.

Through the eyes of 70 artists, 80 rooms within the hospital are reimagined into immersive art installations reflecting eight emotional themes: joy, love, fear, anger, hope, sadness, compassion, and resilience. The hospital’s stark walls come alive with vibrant visuals and concepts. Artist Lisa Waud fills an operating room with a cascade of colorful florals, while Greg Corbino’s work reveals a haunting cardboard forest.

This exhibition invites you to ponder the human experience through evocative mixed-media installations. “Hospital of Emotions begins with the space itself,” note the curators from the studio “House of Art and Dreams.” They suggest that a hospital, inherently a place of fear and care, sets the stage for a deeper exploration of human emotions beyond physical healing.

Discover how another space was creatively renewed with art in Atelier L’s reflective pavilion in Beijing.

The project’s launch attracted over 10,000 curious visitors during its opening weekend, with subsequent weekends quickly selling out. For a closer look at this atmospheric blend of art and emotion, and to secure your entry, check out their website.
