Perched gracefully in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, the Xingu House rises like a geological phenomenon against its rugged surroundings. Designed by Tetro Arquitetura, this architectural vision—led by architects Carlos Maia, Débora Mendes, and Igor Macedo—sprawls across an expansive 8,000-square-meter plot, weaving a narrative between nature and design.
Existing stone walls from a bygone structure curve through the uneven terrain, embraced by dense forests. Grassy plateaus offer majestic mountain vistas, while subterranean caves await transformation into an enchanting winery and cheese cellar. Embracing these natural elements, the house’s design harmonizes beautifully with its environment.
Structure Elevated: A Seamless Union with Nature
The architects’ vision was clear: amplify the stunning views and integrate nature into every living space. To achieve this, the home’s main section ascends six meters above the ground, seemingly floating over ancient stonework. The elevated position grants inhabitants panoramic views of the majestic mountainscape, supported by thick, creatively-shaped concrete pillars.

These integral pillars cleverly conceal essential functions such as bathrooms, stairs, an elevator, and service areas while adding structural elegance. The layout is divided into three distinct sectors, whimsically termed “tips.” The main tip houses the primary suites, while the others extend outward along the stone plateau, offering space for guests, all strategically angled to embrace the terrain.
A Separate Spa: Echoing the Forest’s Shape
The spa, purposefully detached from the main residence, weaves alongside the natural forest, preserving the landscape’s integrity. Within this secluded sanctuary are a sauna, changing rooms, a gym, and lounge areas, all encased in a form that dances naturally with the trees.
