A Vibrant Civic Space
Barcelona’s architectural studio MACH has unveiled the striking Calasparra Town Hall in Spain, transforming 1,120 square meters into a vivid civic hub. Nestled next to the municipal theater and market square, this bold red building redefines the town’s center as a beacon of community and governance.
The architectural choice is deliberate. With its deep Cartagena red facade, inspired by the iconic kiosks in nearby Cartagena, the design pays homage to the cultural roots of the Murcia region. MACH emphasizes the importance of this hue in visually connecting the municipal building to its historical backdrop.
Architectural Harmony and Future Growth
A robust mix of materials defines the town hall’s character. The exterior’s textured render contrasts with the interior’s exposed concrete, finished with a subtle pink pigment. This combination exudes both permanence and warmth, enhancing the building’s inviting nature.

Inside, the design maximizes flexibility. By consolidating structural elements at the perimeter, the town hall offers expansive open spaces on both floors. These adaptable areas serve as workspaces for the council and venues for public events, reflecting the building’s dual role in civic life.

Building for Tomorrow
MACH’s foresight extends to potential growth. The structural system is engineered to support an additional three stories, showcasing a vision for future expansion without compromising current functionality. This thoughtful approach ensures the building remains a vital community asset for years to come.

Natural light pours through a blend of rectilinear and arched windows, highlighting the space’s openness and adaptability. A sweeping balcony on the first floor offers a scenic overlook of the bustling square, further integrating the building into its surroundings.
