Iconic Design Resurrected in Provence
Maison Prouvé 58, originally conceived by Jean and Claude Prouvé in 1958, has been magnificently relocated to the verdant landscapes of Saint-Paul-de-Vence in southern France. This restoration serves as a landmark of modular design, once threatened by demolition in Alsace, now standing among pine and olive trees, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. The refurbishment was orchestrated by Les Maisons CAB, making the property available for overnight stays. For more details, click here.
A Rich History of Innovation and Revival
The house initially came to life in Epfig, northeastern France, commissioned by notary Édouard Degott. Over sixty years, it underwent several modifications before redevelopment plans endangered its existence. Saved by Belgian art collector Hubert Bonnet in 2021, the house was meticulously dismantled and transported to Nancy before restoration. This ambitious project sees it now standing proudly in Provence, its aluminum facade and vast glass panels embracing a new horizon.

Pioneering Prefabrication
Jean Prouvé’s passion for industrialized construction ignited this project, with his son Claude realizing the architectural vision. Although the original date of completion is 1959, the legacy of 1958 remains etched in its name. Historical records from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Nancy recount challenging delays in receiving facade panels, offering insight into mid-century prefabrication challenges. The jean prouvé house’s insulated aluminum panels and expansive glazing are testaments to the innovative spirit of the era.
Modernist Interiors with a Historic Flair
Within the 115-square-meter dwelling, featuring modernist furnishings by Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand, the design blends warmth introduced by wood with the lightness of metal, creating an open, interconnected feel. Generous windows ensure seamless integration with the surrounding landscape, enhancing the serene atmosphere.

A New Chapter in Modernist Architecture
Occupying nearly 4,000 square meters, Maison Prouvé 58 shares its estate with Le Clos du Père François, a restored Provençal farmhouse from around 1850. The juxtaposition of stone and modernist materials creates a rich visual and architectural dialogue. Landscaped gardens, a swimming pool, and a mural by Claudia Comte further enrich the experience, blending historical and contemporary art forms.
Fondation CAB unveiled both properties in October 2026, opening them for public stays. With a capacity for four guests, this remarkable property offers a unique escape that marries the rustic charm of the past with the sleek innovation of modernist design. Captured beautifully by Micha Pycke and visible on @micha.pycke, this remarkable house continues to celebrate the transformative power of architecture.
