Honoring a Visionary: Zaha Hadid’s Indelible Impact

When the architecture world lost Zaha Hadid in 2016, the void left by her unexpected passing at 65 was profound. As we approach what would have been her 76th birthday, the Zaha Hadid Foundation celebrates her extraordinary legacy with a series of events, aimed to showcase the breadth and visionary and lasting nature of the architect’s work.

The Zaha Hadid Foundation Clerkenwell: A New Chapter

To commemorate this occasion, the Foundation has inaugurated a newly refurbished headquarters at 10 Bowling Green Lane in London’s Clerkenwell. This Victorian brick building, once the heart of Hadid’s operations, has been transformed into a vibrant hub for architectural discourse. Renovated by Studio KA, it is ready to host an array of galleries, lecture spaces, and collections that reflect Hadid’s innovative spirit.

The space, which soft-launched with a preview today (29 October 2026), will fully open on 3 November 2026. It houses exhibits that display the scope of Hadid’s work, including “Zaha Hadid: Architecture of Performance,” curated by Catherine Howe. Other significant programs include “The Rebar Beneath” by artist LionHeart and Pulitzer-winning illustrator Mona Chalabi’s “The Completely Exhausting Inexhaustibility of Zaha Hadid.” These exhibitions as part of the Zaha Hadid celebrations dive deep into Hadid’s stage designs and explore her wide-ranging influence through creative mediums.

Symposium: ’89° of Zaha Hadid’

In conjunction with these exhibitions, the Foundation, in collaboration with the Architectural Association and the Serpentine, will host a two-day symposium titled ’89° of Zaha Hadid’. This event will assemble luminaries like Hélène Binet, Nigel Coates, and Rem Koolhaas, offering a comprehensive exploration of Hadid’s life and her transformative vision of architecture. Discussions will cover her formative years and dissect her groundbreaking contributions to the field.

A Dynamic New Identity

The Foundation’s rejuvenation extends online with a redesigned website by London’s Made by ON and a fresh visual identity by Amsterdam’s Experimental Jetset. Rather than a static logo, this flexible typographic system reflects Hadid’s experimental and boundary-pushing nature, transforming continuously across various foundation platforms.

Rana Hadid, chair of the trustees, emphasizes the Foundation’s mission to preserve and propagate her creative legacy. This new era aims to safeguard Hadid’s vast archive while opening it to broader audiences, fostering continued inspiration and innovation within architecture. The architectural legacy of Zaha Hadid continues to inspire new generations through these efforts.
