Reimagining the Nissan MICRA
Canadian designer Marc-André Fauteux has revolutionized the aesthetic of the Nissan MICRA with his award-winning design in the “Elevate All-New Nissan MICRA: The Signature Edition” competition. Nissan, in collaboration with designboom, challenged creatives worldwide to enhance the car’s visual identity through innovative use of color and graphics. Over 1,000 entries poured in, with Fauteux emerging victorious among eleven finalists.
A Moving Canvas with Organized Simplicity
Fauteux’s concept, described as “organised simplicity,” artfully balances structured geometry with dynamic energy. The Nissan MICRA now sports a striking blue body complemented by a vivid yellow front panel and bold red accents. This design gives the car a sense of movement, even when stationary. Fauteux’s ability to maintain the car’s original form while infusing it with new life impressed the jury.
The competition emphasized treating the car’s exterior as a canvas, seamlessly incorporating Nissan’s ethos without altering its core design elements like the body, wheels, or lights.

From Vision to Reality
For Fauteux, transforming a functional object into moving art was irresistible. His extensive experience in graphic design, including work in automotive design, equipped him with a unique perspective. “The playful and expressive nature of the all-new MICRA was a perfect canvas,” Fauteux explains, highlighting the blend of art and everyday life in his work. This design evolution captures the spirit of art in motion.
