In a world full of nervousness, it is nice to have furniture that reflects these feelings. The “nervous chairs” by Grant Wilkinson and Teresa Rivera not only look nervous, but they also feel scared. The wooden pieces are squiggly rather than straight, and their eponymous brand’s ever-growing line of products is known for putting updated spins on traditional elements. This furniture has been nicknamed nervous chairs because they appear to quake with nervousness, which is an apt representation of our collective anxieties.
Rivera shares:
We enjoy modern tastes, but we’re interested in traditional techniques. We try to incorporate them in every item: the rearrest of the Windsor was steam-bent. We weave caned seats for La Silla by hand. We contained hand-carved barley twists for our most recent creation, the Welsh Stick Chairs.
The Future Perfect is a brick-and-mortar store with an online presence. It will showcase new designs from Wilkinson and Rivera, based in Walthamstow, East London.
