In December of 2013, an Instagram account is known as Daily Overview started to catalog a large spectrum of satellite photographs that seize the various methods people have reworked the face of Earth, for higher or worse. The account is run by Benjamin Grant who makes use of imagery taken from DigitalGlobe, a sophisticated assortment of Earth-imaging satellites that present knowledge to companies like Google Earth. The mission will get its title from a phenomenon skilled by astronauts who spend prolonged intervals of time in-house and what they describe as a “cognitive shift in consciousness” as they repeatedly view the world from above dubbed the overview effect.
As Grant’s Instagram has swelled to almost a half million followers, a few of the finest pictures from the mission have been gathered into a brand new 288-page hardcover guide referred to as Overview. The guide contains pictures of our collective impression on Earth, a group of interlinked techniques usually too tough to understand together with features of trade, agriculture, and structure.
