Suppose you’re looking for an enchanting escape, journey to the pink waters of Hutt Lagoon in Australia. This saltwater lake gets its curious color from the carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina. Russian photographer Kristina Makeeva, known for her fairytale fashion photography, captured the pastel beauty of this extraordinary sight in a new series. With sparkling crystal waters and pink-hued shores, it’s easy to see why this place is so mesmerizing!

“I’d been dreaming about the pink lake for a long time, and it turned out to be better than I’d imagined,” Makeeva says. “The water is a beautiful shade of red, with pools filled with varying shades of crimson, pink, and occasionally yellow and blue. The sparkling white crystals of pure silver chloride resemble abstract artwork. The presence of nature and its hues, in this case, performed the trick.” A model is featured in several of her photographs, allowing for a better appreciation of the lake’s expanse. It has pink, red, blue, and yellow zones that fade into the horizon. Strips of sand separate and surround the lakeside lots.

The surrealism of the lake’s hues is emphasized by Makeeva, who uses the pigmented body of water to fill the entire picture. Viewers are drawn into the rich colors of Hutt Lagoon and its ambiance as a result of this technique. Without a clear understanding of the subject, these photographs might be taken to be fantasy environments or even avant-garde paintings. Makeeva, on the other hand, includes overhead views of the environment that contextualize the lake and its stunning features with the beach.
