An Immersive Art Playground with Pastel Beads
Delve into a shimmering sea of pastel beads in Cj Hendry‘s latest exhibition at Salon 94 Design in New York, offering visitors an interactive art experience. Running from August 6-16, the “Pastel” exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in a pit filled with roughly a million chunky plastic beads, resembling a swimming pool brimming with Hendry’s iconic miniature figures.

Interactive Exhibit Inspired by Childhood Play
The concept spark for this exhibit was the beading room at Space Club, a Brooklyn play space. There, both children and adults dive into trays of beads, making jewelry and discovering treasures. Inspired by this interaction, Hendry expanded the bead pool to an impressive 20 by 30 feet, with a depth of over two feet. Visitors can enjoy a hands-on experience as they create their own bead designs.
“All my exhibitions tend to have a playful element,” notes Hendry.

Participate and Create Your Own Experience
Visitors don Cj Hendry-branded socks and wade through the beads, crafting bracelets, necklaces, or collecting beads as souvenirs. Individual beads are priced at $1, and a canister of 75 costs $50. Hendry humorously remarks, “I bet Salon 94 has never sold art for a dollar.”

Bridging the Art World with an Engaging Art Journey
With nearly a million Instagram followers, Hendry attracts a diverse audience that may not typically visit galleries. “My world colliding with Salon 94 is absurd but fitting,” she observes, highlighting the gallery’s openness to experimentation and audience connection through these creative engagements.
