The project reinterprets the building’s monumental central arch, turning it into the core architectural element that guides visitors through the facility. By enclosing the upper level of this arch, the designers have created a striking circulation spine. This feature links various exhibition floors and allows for a visible flow of movements, crafting a seamless connection from the entrance to the galleries above.
Adding new access below the arch strengthens its role as the entrance to both the city and the picturesque Santander Bay. A lightweight steel structure defines the new interventions, creating a contrast with the original materials of the Pereda Building.

The building offers 3,000 square meters across five exhibition levels, complemented by a café terrace and restaurant with city and bay views. The three basement levels house an auditorium, essential technical infrastructure, and systems to support the cultural functions. Emphasizing sustainability, the project favors adaptive reuse over new construction, thereby reducing waste and carbon emissions. With geothermal energy systems and green roofs, the environmental strategy has earned a BREEAM Exceptional rating of 92.96.
