Isabel and Alfredo Aquizilan Create These Enormous Cardboard Installations

Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan are a married couple that works together fundamentally at the medium of cardboard. The duo‘s huge sculptural works are comprised of mini houses that were heaped and stacked, creating blasting towers of comingled landscapes. For many of their setups, the artists collaborate with students and community members to build cardboard structures, inviting participants to reveal and channel their particular changing experiences.

A comment from NuNu Fine Art Gallery in Taiwan explains, “that the Aquilizans negotiate individuality vis-à-vis tracing points of mobilities… Identifying with departures as a touching tribute to all, such as themselves, who have been able to create homes from strange lands, sustaining memories of their passing as the base of new dwellings.”
