Mexican design studio MESTIZ transforms traditional wicker into vibrant storytelling installations for Hermès window displays across Mexico. Imagine oversized red flowers springing from striped planters, whimsical butterflies fluttering beside violet elephants, and playful crabs clutching bright red handbags. This imaginative ecosystem turns everyday objects into animated characters, reminiscent of a lively children’s narrative.
Dive into another fantastical art expression with Richard Ahnert’s oil paintings of anthropomorphized bears, where animals are given charming human traits.
For those fascinated by imaginative worlds and unique art forms, explore Hugo Horita’s whimsical woodcarvings to see more artistic reimaginings that bring creatures to life.

Handcrafted wonders grace Hermès stores
These vivid creations will soon be adorning Hermès windows across Mexico, shifting from the artist’s workshop to city streets. Immense flowers grow from striped planters; handbags sprout quirky legs. Here, butterflies, birds, elephants, and sea creatures coexist, their exaggerated proportions and rich colors inspired by folklore and childhood dreams.

MESTIZ’s project showcases the flexibility of wicker, pushing the material’s boundaries from familiar forms to fantastical designs. Whether forming flower petals or elephant trunks, this single material crafts a diverse array of characters within an imagined world.

A colorful fantasy brought to life
The installations connect each creature within a cohesive environment, inviting onlookers to envision a lively, breathing world. This imaginative landscape combines massive flowers growing from striped containers, while a pink wheelbarrow whimsically balances them.

Expect handwoven tulips, intricate butterflies in pink and red hues, and a crab that transforms a handbag into a charming companion—all crafted in bold colors and creative forms.

The collection continues with unique interpretations, such as fish reimagined through woven forms and vibrant umbrellas standing on yellow legs.

Everyday objects reimagined
Objects commonly observed in daily life shed their usual roles, taking on playful personalities amid the woven landscape, resembling oversized underwater flora with details like purple sea urchins and blue fish swimming through the display.

Here, purple woven creatures and carrot-shaped fish redefine marine life through innovative use of color and design.

A tulip blooms from a creatively woven trunk, adorned with shell-like accents, completing the installation and inviting viewers to lose themselves in this enchanting world.
