Rustic Charm Meets Contemporary Comfort
As summer gradually slips into autumn, the allure of cozy woodland retreats grows irresistible. In New Hampshire, a striking property delivers the perfect seasonal transition, thanks to a vibrant yet grounded transformation by Yond Interiors, based in Minneapolis and New York. Originally a horse barn relocated to the property years ago, the structure now gleams with an exterior painted an electric green, while its interior maintains a raw, natural aesthetic with exposed wood everywhere.

The founder of Yond Interiors, Julia Miller, describes the renovation’s transformation: “It’s rare when you don’t need to build character because it’s already there. Our task was to soften and cozy it up.” The three-bedroom, three-bathroom residence features a grand double-height living space where columns, beams, and boarding remain visible, amplifying the building’s rugged charm.

Infusing Color and Texture
To balance these rough timber expanses, expressive wallpapers were introduced. The client, whose background spans Mexico and various international residences, embraced color, pattern, and texture with enthusiasm. The powder room’s wallpaper evokes a ‘classic cabin’ feel, while a Japanese-inspired print enriches the primary bedroom’s ambiance, thereby harmonizing the project’s nature-centric palette with its furnishings.

This renovation also shines in the kitchen, where New Zealand ceramicist Lucy McMillan’s green tiles create a captivating marbled backsplash. “The client sought vibrant, bold elements,” Miller notes. “This kitchen became a playground for unexpected choices.” Matched with stone countertops and Allied Maker’s Arc Dome pendant lamps, the design playfully modulates visual height and interest.

Layered Elegance with Subtle Softness
Rugs quietly refine the architecture, adding warmth to the space without dominating it. In the dining room, an Art Deco-inspired yellow carpet anchors a dynamic tableau. A Farrow & Ball’s Bancha green ash dining table, flanked by chairs with dark leather seats and peacock-blue mohair backs, exudes elegance. “Diverse materials on these chairs alone contribute to a distinct narrative within the room,” Miller explains.

The design nods to mid-century styles with a pendant lamp overhead and vintage-inspired living room sofas. Yond’s sister brand, Brunel, custom-designed the majority of the furniture and lighting pieces for the residence. “We aimed to marry softness with functionality for a practical space,” says Miller.

A Symphony of Vintage and Custom Discoveries
Complementing bespoke pieces, the home features select items like Patricia Urquiola’s Riva Sideboard. Textile art, including a family heirloom tapestry, enlivens otherwise austere wooden expanses. “These pieces soften the space, imbuing it with familial significance,” Miller reflects.

Every corner of this woodland getaway promises exploration, blending unique color schemes, textural charm, and whimsical touches. This home becomes an inviting barn retreat to embrace the seasonal foliage and create lasting memories.
